Survivor Spotlight: Justine

Hi, my name is Justine. I am 36 years old and I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer on June 5th, 2020. My endocrinologist noticed I had an enlarged thyroid, nodules and goiter. I had two ultrasounds and two biopsies; one at the doctor’s office in January 2019 and the other on June 3, 2020. I finally decided to get a total thyroidectomy because I had been experiencing symptoms. It was a major surgery and took 5 hours in the operating room. I am doing much better and the total thyroidectomy was successful. I am healed from my major surgery. It has been 3 months since I had the total thyroidectomy. I just found out 2 months ago on June 5th, 2020, I was diagnosed with multifocal papillary carcinoma and metastatic papillary carcinoma. They have found 3 spots of cancer in one of the lymph nodes and in my thyroid gland. It will be 3 months since my thyroid cancer diagnosis. About 2 weeks ago on August 11th, 12th and 13th I received radioactive iodine treatments at Valley Medical Center’s Vantage Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging services. The low iodine diet and scans went well. Scary but being diagnosed with thyroid cancer was scary, shocking and I was starting to feel depressed. So many of my friends, family and church family have been there for me by supporting me and praying for me during this situation and during my cancer treatments and scans. God has helped me focused on him by trusting in him and by keeping my faith in Him and He has helped me to stay positive by having a good attitude and staying strong in my cancer treatments and during and after surgery.  About a week ago on August 21st, 2020 I finished my last scan. I have been feeling pretty good and staying strong and God has helped me fight thyroid cancer. Today (August 28, 2020), I had some good news!

I got my test results from my doctor all my previous scans and the radioactive iodine treatment. She gave me a good report all the cancer that I had before in my right and lymph nodes and inside my thyroid gland it’s gone. The radioactive iodine treatment, the scans and the low iodine diet it worked. There’s no other signs of thyroid cancer and no more treatment. God has healed me. I am cancer free. I did beat thyroid cancer’s butt.

I want to support Thyroid cancer awareness month, survivors and those who are going through thyroid cancer and the treatment. You got this. I didn’t give up. Don’t give up on Jesus he will help you get through this by trusting in him. Keep your eyes on Jesus he will heal you like he did to me. Having Jesus in my life he has brought me so much love, so many people in my life. Stay in strong in your faith.

I am a Thyroid Cancer Survivor as of August 28th, 2020. I am here to support September’s Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month.

Thank You Justine for sharing your story with us! Wishing you much Strength, Confidence & Perseverance
